The Super Bowl is coming up Sunday after next. I had hoped to be asking sports horary questions re: how the Packers would fare in each playoff game. No such luck!
Instead, when the time gets closer, I will have to cast a sports event chart based on kickoff time and who is favored to win (the Patriots). I've never liked the Patriots, so I will be rooting for the Giants.
A friend of mine had an excellent chance for a ticket to the Super Bowl, had the Packers won. Back on January 3rd this friend asked, “Will the Packers go to the Super Bowl?” (Jan 3, 2012, 8:17 a.m., Milwaukee, WI)
The essence of the question was, "Will the Packers keep winning games?" So I approached the chart just as I would a regular sports horary.
At first glance, Packers and opponents looked evenly matched. But we know that the Packers fell apart and the Giants won handily. Is there anything in the chart that shows this?
The querent is a Packers fan, so Packers get Lord Ascendant, Saturn. Saturn is exalted and placed in 9th, one of the neutral houses for sports horaries. Opponents are the Moon. Moon is also in exaltation, and in the 3rd, another neutral house--hence my thought that it was too close to call.
Reality proved otherwise. What did I miss?
Moon is in the house of its joy, the 3rd. This must have given Moon the edge. It's a good reminder to consider planetary joys when all other factors seem equal.
We could stop there, but let's look at a few other factors.
Saturn, representing the Packers, is near the end of its exaltation at 28 Libra. In retrospect, the short span of degrees left in exaltation was a clue that the Packers would not get to the Super Bowl. Moon, on the other hand, is early in its exaltation—in the first third of the sign. This must be telling us that the Moon will stay strong for a longer period of time.
Moon is also in a fixed sign. Perhaps fixed exaltation is stronger than cardinal exaltation? We’d need to examine more charts of this kind to see if this idea bears out or not.
Moon phase could also have been a factor. At the date/time of the question, Moon was waxing to full. It’s almost trine, one of the stronger places for the Moon to be relative to the Sun. This tells us that the Moon is strong now, but getting stronger still, giving them the edge.
Ah! I've just now noticed that Saturn is approaching station. At the time of the question Saturn was still moving at a good pace, for Saturn--four minutes a day. In a degree’s time, however, Saturn will begin to slow down. Perhaps ‘a degree’ here was the equivalent of ‘a week or two.’ Saturn getting weaker, Moon getting stronger, Moon wins.
One final comment: A glance at the ephemeris shows us that Saturn does not actually leave exaltation this time around. Before it reaches the end of Libra, it will turn retrograde and will stay for quite some time before it eventually leaves the sign. So: Don’t count the Packers out for next year!

Sadly, prediction holds true: Badgers lose
The chart said the Badgers would lose, and so it proved. But does it hurt!! The Badgers made some key errors, including poor handling of time outs by the coach and a fumble by #4 late in the game. I think that fumble was the Moon's trine with nasty Mercury. It's heartbreaking to see the Badgers lose their second Rose Bowl in a row.
Sigh... on to the NFL playoffs. Go, Packers! Their next game is Jan 15 and I will be out of town. I'll predict the game after that.
Bye for now, sports fans!

Prediction! Rose Bowl 2012
Hey sports astrology fans! The US football bowl and playoff games are upon us. Time for some predictions.
My alma mater's football team, the Wisconsin Badgers, will play in the Rose Bowl tomorrow for the second year in a row. Last year they lost.
Alas for us Badger fans, I predict another loss tomorrow. Here’s the chart: “Will the Badgers win the Rose Bowl?” Jan 1, 2012, 4:14 p.m. CST, Milwaukee, WI.
For those who may not know, John Frawley’s Sports Astrology is the text I use. If you want to learn about astrological sports prediction, buy this book!
Cancer is rising so Moon, Lord 1, signifies the Badgers. Oregon, the opponent, is Saturn, Lord 7.
This is a quick one to judge. Saturn is exalted. Exaltation in sports horaries means that team is very strong. Moon has no essential dignity where it is in Aries, so it is no match for Saturn. Oregon wins.
We could stop here, but let’s look at a few other points for purposes of learning:
• Accidental dignity in sports horaries is more important than essential dignity. Here, both planets are in neutral houses. Nothing here to consider against our main testimony.
• Antiscion South Node falls in 1st house, another testimony against the Badgers.
• What about the Sun sitting on the Descendant? The Sun here is peregrine so could harm Oregon. However, it is inside Oregon’s house, so in Oregon’s control. Even if it signifies something harmful, that harm is contained.*
• Moon will aspect Mercury in three degrees, within range for an American football game. Mercury is in detriment, so a nasty Mercury. This aspect has potential to harm the Moon, so is another testimony against the Badgers.
I will check the kick-off event chart tomorrow to see what that shows us. Kick-off should be around 4:00 p.m. CST. Signing off until then!
*At 7/24/12: I'm not sure what I was thinking with this comment about the Sun. The argument that it is contained makes no sense. If it's afflicting the house, it's afflicting the house. In fact, Pluto is afficting Oregon's house, as well, sitting just a few degrees from the cusp. As Oregon did win the game, however, Saturn in exaltation must have been a strong enough testimony to outweight these afflictions.
